Iowa Volleyball Celebrates 2014 Accomplishments

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa volleyball student-athletes, coaches and support staff gathered to celebrate the team’s accomplishments in 2014 at the annual end of the season banquet inside the press box at Kinnick Stadium Tuesday evening.

Head coach Bond Shymansky emceed the event, thanking each member of the team and staff for their roles in the Hawkeyes’ success and announcing team award winners.

Sophomore Lauren Brobst was named MVP, after leading the Hawkeyes in kills (286) and kills per set (2.75) in 2014. The outside hitter started all but one match of the season, and led Iowa in kills in 11 of her 30 matches played, reaching double figures on seven occasions and the 20-kill mark three times.

Freshman Taylin Alm received the Most Improved Award. The right side hitter appeared in 28 matches with four starts, and hit. 400 or above in 10-of-31 matches played. She was a key contributor in Iowa’s four-match Big Ten Conference win streak with season-high kill totals in three of the four contests.

Senior Alex Lovell was honored with the Coaches’ Award. The outside hitter appeared in all but four matches of her career (125-of-129) and 423-of-466 sets, and closes her career ninth all-time at Iowa with 1,279 kills. She was the recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and was named Academic All-Big Ten for the third consecutive year following the 2014 season.

Redshirt junior Alli O’Deen earned the Academic Excellence Award. She earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition for the third-straight season. The defensive specialist appeared in six matches with one start.
