SAN DIEGO, California — The University of Iowa women’s golf team concluded competition at the BYU Entrada Classic on Tuesday, finishing with a three round total of 897 (+33), including rounds of 299, 297 and 301. The Hawkeyes claimed sixth place in the field of 15.
Amy Ihm fired in the best finish of the competition for Iowa. She improved in all three rounds, carding a three round total 220 (+4), posting rounds of 75, 74 and 71. The junior birdied holes four, seven, and 10, while also making par on 13 holes in the final round. Her efforts earned her a 12th place finish.
“We made another good step forward this week. I love the competitiveness of this team and they have good chemistry together. It was great to see three players finish in the top 25. Amy has to be one of the most improved players in the Big Ten this season,” said UI head coach Megan Menzel.
Jessie Sindlinger finished five strokes behind Ihm, carding a three round 225 (+9), staying consistent and tallying rounds of 75, 75, and 75. The sophomore birdied holes one, three and 11 in the final round, ending the competition tied for 19th. Elisa Suarez finished one stroke behind Sindlinger, registering a three round total of 226 (+10), including rounds of 75, 73, and 78. The freshman finished tied for 25th.
Playing in the number three position, Jessica Ip claimed a share for 50th place, posting a three round 235 (+19). Shelby Phillips finished four strokes behind Ip, carding a three round 239 (+23). Briana Midkiff rounded out the action with a total of 246 (+30).
The Hawkeyes have a quick turn-around before traveling to Tucson, Arizona, for the Mountain View Collegiate on March 20.?
