IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa golfers — Amy Ihm, Morgan Kukla, and Kristin Glesne — saw action in championship events this week.
Kukla and Ihm competed in the 21st Annual Illinois Women’s Open in Romeoville, Illinois, while Glesne saw action at the Texas State Junior Championship in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
Kukla, a sophomore, tied for 14th place with a three-round total of 223 (+4; 74, 73, 76). Her rounds were highlighted by five birdies on holes one, three, 12, 15, and 18. The Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, native also collected a first-place finish at the Lake County Amateur on July 26 after carding a two-round total of 151 (+7; 76, 75).
Senior Amy Ihm recorded a two-round total of 158 (+14), carding rounds of 81 (+9) and 77 (+5).
Two Hawkeye graduates also competed in the event. Chelsea Harris carded a three-round total of 213 (-3) to finish second, while Karly Grouwinkel tied for 25th with a three-round 229 (+13; 84, 72, 73).
Glesne, an incoming freshman, recorded a 26th-place finish at the Texas State Junior Championship. The San Antonio, Texas, native fired a three-round total of 226 (+10; 76, 74, 76) with birdies on holes five, 10, and 14. The three-time state medalist will join the Hawkeyes this fall.
