SASKATCHEWAN, Canada — University of Iowa women’s golfer Jessica Ip began competition at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship on Aug. 4. The competition, taking place at Deer Park Municipal Golf Club in Saskatchewan, Canada, runs through Friday. The tournament champion earns exemption into the 2016 Canadian Women’s Amateur and all 2016 Canadian Women’s Tour events.
The sophomore tees off at 12:13 p.m. (CT) today for her third round. Ip begins the day at the top of the field after carding a two-round total of 139 (-7; 70, 69). Her rounds were highlighted by 10 birdies on holes two, three, four (twice), nine (twice), 11, 14, 15, and 18.
This is the fourth Canadian event Ip has competed in this summer. The Richmond Hill, Ontario, native tied for 15th at the Golf Association of Ontario’s (GAO) Investors Group Women’s Amateur on July 10th at the St. Thomas Golf & Country Club.
Ip tied for ninth place at the Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship on July 17, carding a four-round total of 314 (+26; 78, 77, 77, 82) at the Loch March Golf and Country Club in Kanata, Ontario.
The sophomore also competed at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship on July 29, where she carded a two round total of 160 (+16; 78,82).
Ip impressed in her first season for the Hawkeyes, competing in all six spring competitions and posting a 77.7 scoring average. She paced the team with a 12th-place finish at the Lady Buckeye Invite on April 18-19, carding a three-round 226 (+10) with rounds of 73, 73, and 80.
