CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.– University of Iowa women’s golf signee Sophie Liu tied for 35th at the Women’s Dixie Amateur week at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida. The tournament marks the first time Liu has competed against collegiate athletes.
Liu carded a 74 (+2) in her first round on Wednesday, making par on 16 holes. After carding a 74 (+2) in Thursday’s second round, Liu fought back, firing a four-under-par 68 on Wednesday, advancing past the 54-hole cut.
The Vancouver, British Columbia, native native carded a final-round 84 (+12) for a four-round total of 300 (+12; 74, 74, 68, 84). Her rounds were highlighted by 55 holes at our below par and six birdies on holes one, two, four, eight, 11 and 12.
Liu — who signed with the Hawkeyes on November 12 — is the 2015 Cape Coast Conference Individual Champion. She currently holds Viera High School’s (Florida) records for the lowest season average (72.0) and highest finish at a state competition (2nd).
This year, Liu has won two tournaments — the FSGA Girls Championship and a Florida Junior Tour event at Eagle Creek — and finished runner-up twice. In nine tournaments (22 rounds) in 2015, Liu owns a 75.4 stroke average.
