IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa student-athletes — Aaron Mallett, Elexis Guster, and Will Teubel — and one relay compete at the 2016 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mallett, a junior, is making his second NCAA indoor appearance in the men’s 60-meter hurdles, finishing sixth in the event a year ago. His personal-best 7.69, which he set at the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 27, enters a four-way tie for fourth nationally. The men’s 60-meter hurdle semi-finals begin Friday at 6:10 p.m. (CT). The finals are Saturday at 4:25 p.m.
Guster and Teubel will make their first career appearances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Guster hit her qualifying time, 52.36, in the women’s 400 meters at the Big Ten Championships to earn the eighth seed. The junior will compete in the 400-meter semi-finals Friday at 7:10 p.m. The finals take place Saturday at 5:20 p.m.
Guster will anchor the 11th-seeded women’s 1,600-meter relay, which also includes senior MonTayla Holder, freshman Briana Guillory, and junior Alexis Hernandez, on Saturday at 6:55 p.m.
Teubel, a senior, enters the weekend as the 16th seed in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:47.74. The semi-finals of the men’s 800 meters are set for Friday at 7:25 p.m. with the finals on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 11 at 5:25 p.m. (CT) and March 12 at 3:55 p.m. A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 13 at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 and also Wednesday, March 23 at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
