SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Four former University of Iowa men’s golfers — Chris Brant, Brad Hopfinger, Vince India, and Barrett Kelpin — are set to compete at this week’s Lincoln Land Charity Championship in Springfield, Illinois. The four-day, Web.com Tour-event begins Thursday at Panther Creek Country Club.
All four Hawkeyes played a prominent role in bringing Hawkeye golf to a level of national prominence. In 2009, they led Iowa to its first NCAA Regional appearance since 1995 and started a streak that has since been extended to eight consecutive appearances. In addition, the group led Iowa to a pair of NCAA Championship appearances, tying for 10th place in 2011 — the best finish in program history.
Hopfinger and India graduated from Iowa in 2011, while Brant and Kelpin graduated in 2012. The four All-Big Ten performers claimed individual medalist honors a combined six times throughout their careers. In 2011, Brant and India both garnered All-American honors. India was also named Big Ten Player of the Year and awarded the Les Bolstad Trophy, given to the golfer with the lowest combined season stroke average in the Big Ten.
