USA Wrestling Coaching Announcement
IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s golf program announced its schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 season on Wednesday. The Hawkeyes are to play in 12 events, including two home tournaments.
Iowa, one of only two Big Ten teams (Illinois) to appear in eight consecutive NCAA Regionals, opens the season in Minneapolis on Sept. 10, where the Hawkeyes will compete at the two-day Gopher Invitational.
On Sept. 25-26, the Hawkeyes travel to Chicago to compete at the Windon Memorial Classic. The Hawkeyes last competed at the Windon Memorial Classic in 2014, tying for third-place in the 15-team field.
The following weekend, the Hawkeyes return home to host a national field at the annual Golfweek Conference Challenge from Sept. 30-Oct. 2. The 54-hole tournament will be played at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. The Hawkeyes claimed the team title at last year’s event, carding an 842 (-22) — the fifth-best 54-hole score in program history. Raymond Knoll shared medalist honors after firing a 205 (-11; 66, 67, 72) — the lowest three-round total in program history.
On Oct. 10-11, the Hawkeyes continue play in Denver for the Paintbrush Invitational, before closing out the fall slate with a trip to Dallas for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate from Oct. 24-25.
Iowa’s spring season tees off on Feb. 10-11 at the Big Ten Match Play Championships in Palm Coast, Florida. The event will be televised on a tape delay on the Big Ten Network on a date that has not yet been announced.
Following a month long break, the Hawkeyes return to the links for an action-packed March. On March 12, the Hawkeyes head to Okatie, South Carolina, for the Chechessee Creek Club Dual. Later on that same week, Iowa travels to Statesboro, Georgia, to compete in the Schenkel Invitational. The three-day event begins on March 17. The Hawkeyes close out March at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tennessee (March 31 – April 2).
On April 15-16, Iowa hosts the 24th annual Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course. Last year’s tournament saw the Hawkeyes notch a second-place finish, led by senior Nate Yankovich’s third-place performance. The following weekend, the Hawkeyes conclude regular season play in Columbus, Ohio, where they are scheduled to compete at the Robert Kepler Invitational (April 22-23).
The 2017 Big Ten Championships will be held in Baltimore for the first time since the tournaments inception in 1920. The three-day conference tournament begins on April 28 at the Baltimore Country Club. The 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship Regionals will be played at six different sites throughout the country from May 15-17. The 2017 National Championship (May 26-31) will take place in Sugar Grove, Illinois, and will be played at Rich Harvest Farms.
Iowa returns five letterwinners from last year’s squad that finished second at the Big Ten Championships and appeared in the program’s eighth straight NCAA Regional.
