IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Jessie Sindlinger, junior Jessica Ip, and freshman Sophie Liu were named to the 2016 Women’s Golf Big Ten Preseason Watch List, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Sindlinger competed in all 10 tournaments in 2015-16. The Charles City, Iowa, native led the Hawkeyes in three tournaments and notched six top-20 finishes. Sindlinger carded the lowest 54-hole score of her career (216; 73, 71, 72) on April 8-9 at the Red Raider Invitational, leading the Hawkeyes to a fifth-place overall finish.
Ip appeared in all 10 tournaments last season. The Richmond Hill, Ontario, native made program history by claiming the first medalist honor of her career at the Diane Thomason Invitational on Sept. 13 with a four-under-par 212 (70, 69, 23). The junior became Iowa’s first medalist since Feb. 14, 2008 (Tyrette Metzendorf, Baja Invitational). Ip’s three-round total of 212 bested Iowa’s 54-hole program record of 213, set by Kristi Cardwell in 2012.
Liu, one of six freshman named to the preseason watch list, was the Florida State (3A) runner-up (-4; 140) in 2015. She guided Viera High School to a third-place finish at the state tournament. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native was the 2015 Cape Coast Conference individual champion. She also owns Viera High School school records for lowest season average (72.0) and highest finish at a state competition (second).
The Hawkeyes open the 2016 season at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas, Sept. 12-13.
