UI Volleyball Falls to Iowa State, 3-0

AMES, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball team fell to Iowa State, 3-0, on Friday night at the Hilton Coliseum. The Hawkeyes fall to 6-2 on the season with the loss.
 
After a back-and-forth battle to start set one, the Hawkeyes used a 5-2 run to take a 19-17 lead. Kills by senior Lauren Brobst and sophomore Reghan Coyle aided the rally. The Cyclones responded, using an 8-2 run to close the set (25-21) and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
The Hawkeyes used a five-point run to get out to an early 10-7 lead in set two to force a Cyclone timeout. Freshman Alexa Ito served the run and added an ace the rally. Iowa State fought back; however, using a 5-1 run late to pull ahead and win the set, 25-23. The Cyclones added three more team blocks in the set to hold the Hawkeyes to eight kills and a .125 attack percentage.
 
Iowa utilized an 8-1 run to grab an early 10-3 lead in the third set. Colye added a kill and a pair of blocks to the rally, while senior Ashley Mariani registered a kill and a block, and sophomore Molly Kelly and junior Jess Janota served aces. Iowa State responded; however, using an 8-3 run to pull within two, 13-11. The Cyclones extended their lead with a 7-0 lead late to seal the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
 
Brobst led the offense with nine kills. Senior setter Loxley Keala dished out 26 assists and recorded a team-high nine digs.
 
The Hawkeyes return to Cyclone Invitational action tomorrow with a 12 p.m. (CT) match against Montana and a 6:30 p.m. game verses North Dakota State.
