Cross Country Enters Regional Rankings

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s and women’s cross country teams entered the USTFCCCA Regional team rankings Monday following their performance at the Illinois State Invitational on Sept. 9.
 
The men debuted at No. 13 while the women entered at No. 12.
 
After finishing runner-up at the Hawkeye Invitational on Sept. 2, the men placed first overall at the ISU Invite with 44 points. The team was led by junior Michael Melchert and senior Ben Anderson, who placed sixth and 10th, respectively. The duo has finished in the top 10 in both races this season.
 
The women crowned an individual champion in their season opener at the Hawkeye Invitational. Senior Tess Wilberding won her first career race in the women’s 3,000-meters to lead the team to their first victory of the season. The women have placed six runners in the top 10 through two races, including two top three finishes by Wilberding and junior Madison Waymire.
