IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Emma Sougstad is a Collegeswimming.com Preseason All-American in the 100-yard breaststroke, it was announced Monday.
“This is a great preseason honor for a great competitor,” said UI head coach Marc Long. “We’re excited for Emma and the team.”
The Forest City, Iowa, native earned the preseason distinction following a junior season where she earned honorable-mention All-America honors after placing ninth in the 100 breast at the NCAA Championships. Sougstad was an NCAA qualifier in three events — 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM — in both 2015 and 2016.
Last season, Sougstad led the team with school-record times in the 50 free (22.63), 100 breast (59.00), 200 breast (2:10.81), and 200 IM (1:57.55). She was also part of the team-leading 200-free relay (1:31.52), school-record setting 400-free relay (3:20.58), and school-record setting 200-medley (1:39.27) and 400-medley relays (3:36.72).
The Hawkeyes open the 2016-17 season Sept. 29-30, traveling to East Lansing, Michigan, for a Big Ten Conference dual at Michigan State.
