Liu Leads Hawkeyes at Golfweek Conference Challenge

VAIL, Colo. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team concluded action at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Wednesday. The Hawkeyes finished 14th, posting a final round of 306 (+18) for a three-round total of 915 (+51).
 
San Diego State (866; +2) took first-place, followed by Denver and Pepperdine in second (784; +10).
 
Freshman Sophie Liu recorded the best round of the day for the Hawkeyes, firing a 72 (E) for a three-round 223 (+7). The freshman built on her second round momentum, sinking two birdies on holes 14 and 17 in the third round. Liu carded seven birdies throughout the tournament, helping her to tie for 33rd. The freshman recorded personal bests for 18-holes and 54-holes in her collegiate career so far.
 
“Sophie had a solid week and continues to gain some confidence each time out,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “It’s great to see her have her low round as a Hawkeye.”
 
Juniors Jessica Ip and Elisa Suarez posted the second-best finishes for Iowa with a three-round total of 231 (+15), tying for 63rd. Ip carded 81 (+9) in the final round, while Suarez carded 79 (+7). Both Ip and Suarez posted 37 holes at or below par over the course of the tournament. Ip scored seven birdies total, while Suarez scored five.
 
Senior Jessie Sindlinger posted 79 (+7) on the final day to tie for 75th. She registered par on eight holes and added two birdies on holes 14 and 15. The senior carded a three-round 236 (+20), posting rounds of 77, 80, and 79.
 
Sophomore Shawn Rennegarbe stayed consistent, carding a final round 76 (+4). She tied for 78th in her Hawkeyes debut, with a three-round 237 (+21). Her day was highlighted with a birdie on hole three and an eagle on hole 15.
 
The Hawkeyes return to action Oct. 17-18 at the Greenville Regional Preview in Greenville, North Carolina.
