IOWA CITY, Iowa —  University of Iowa student-athletes had an opportunity to meet with representatives from the Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) and UI Department of Public Safety as part of a Multicultural Focus Group Cookout on Sept. 29 in the Gerdin Athletic Learning Center.

The purpose of the cookout was to provide a casual environment for student-athletes to gain greater understanding about the role and the challenges faced by those who serve in law enforcement. Students asked questions and discussed important current events about law enforcement from both a local and national perspective.
Officers present were Ashten Hayes, Crime Prevention Officer, Iowa City Police Department, Rob Cash, Neighborhood Response Coordinator, Iowa City Police Department, and Alton Poole, University of Iowa Department of Public Safety.
