IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa redshirt sophomore O’Shea Wilson was named Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Wilson competed in the long jump at the Hawkeye Invitational on Jan. 14, recording a career-best and NCAA leading jump of 25’9″ ½ (7.86m) on his final attempt. He was 4.3 inches short of tying former Hawkeye and Olympian Anthuan Maybank’s school record from 1992. The jump ranks third all-time at Iowa and is a meet record.

The weekly conference honor is the first of his career. The last Hawkeye to earn Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week was Troy Doris in 2012.

Wilson leads the Hawkeyes back in action at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational this weekend. The two-day event begins this Friday at 10:30 a.m. (CT) and Saturday at 10 a.m.
