IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore Reno Tuufuli was named Co-Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Tuufuli competed in the discus throw at the Baldy Castillo Invitational March 17-18. He won the competition with a mark of 59.04m (177 feet, 9 ¼ inches). The Las Vegas, Nev., native’s throw ranks first in the country by over two meters and is sixth in Iowa history.

This is Tuufuli’s first outdoor Big Ten honor of his career. The last athlete to win the award during the outdoor season was Babatunde Amosu in the triple jump in 2014.

The Hawkeyes return to action at the Florida Relays and Stanford Invitational on March 30 and 31st, respectively.
