 IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s golf team posted an opening round of 289 (+1) on Saturday at the Hawkeye Invite. The Hawkeyes are in third place through one and a half rounds as the tournament was suspended due to inclement weather midway through round two. The annual tournament is being played at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa. 
 
34529Eleventh-ranked Texas Tech leads the 14-team field at nine-under-par, after opening with a 285 (-3) in round one. Kansas (43) follows in second at six-under-par, finishing one stroke behind Texas Tech in the first round. 
 
The Hawkeyes fired a one-over-par 289 in the first round, and are five-under-par in the second round. 
 
Senior Carson Schaake led the Hawkeyes with an opening round of 69 (-3), registering six birdies. He followed with three birdies through 11 holes in the second round and is currently in third place at five-under-par.
 
Sophomore Matthew Walker utilized four birdies in the first round en route to a 71 (-1). Walker is currently one-under-par through 11 holes of the second round after carding three birdies and a bogey-free front nine. He is tied for sixth and is two-under-par for the tournament. 
 
Senior Raymond Knoll posted a two-over-par 74 in the first round. He followed with an even-par 36 through his first nine of the second round. Knoll sits in a tie for 21st.
 
Freshman Jack Simpson is currently three-over after posting a 76 (+4) in the opening round. He bounced back in round two and is one-under-par through 11 holes. Simpson carded back-to-back birdies on six and seven and is tied for 35th. 
 
Freshman Alex Schaake rounded out Iowa’s top five, carding an opening round of 75 (+3). He is currently five-over-par and in a tie for 51st. 
 
Junior Sam Meuret led the individuals for Iowa, carding a two-under-par 70 in his opening round. He registered a birdie and is bogey free with six holes left to play in the second round. Meuret is in fifth at three-under-par for the tournament. 
 
Freshman Ryoto Furuya opened with a two-over-par 74. He is one-under-par in the second round with nine holes left to play. Furuya is currently in a tie for 21st. 
 
Freshman Benton Weinberg carded a 76 (+4) in the first round, before recording one birdie on hole five in the second round. Weinberg is currently tied for 35th at three-over-par. 
 
Sophomore Aaron DeNucci posted an opening round of 79 (+7), and is two-over par in the second round through 11 holes. DeNucci is nine-over-par and is tied for 72nd. Freshman Alex Moorman posted a 76 (+4) in the opening round. He is 10-over-par and tied for 74th with seven holes left to play in round two. 
 
Overall, the Hawkeyes posted 44 birdies and two eagles on Saturday. 
 
The Hawkeyes will conclude the second and third rounds of the Hawkeye Invitational Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring is available on golfstat.com.
