IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa volleyball senior Annika Olsen has been named one of 14 student-athletes who will represent the Big Ten Conference in the upcoming foreign volleyball tour, announced the league office. The group will travel to the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy and Austria from June 17-28, 2017.

The tour begins in Prague where the team will play two matches against the Prague National Team over three days. The group then travels to Slovenia to compete against the Slovenian Junior National Team and either the Slovenian National Team or the Croatian National Team. The team concludes the trip in Italy where it will face either Italy’s Junior National team or the National Team in a pair of matches.

In addition to competition on the court, the 14 student-athletes will have the opportunity to partake in community service initiatives, study foreign languages with local students and visit some of Europe’s most historic cities, including Vienna in Austria, Maribor in Slovenia, and Venice and Milan in Italy.

Maryland’s Steve Aird will serve as the head coach of the Big Ten Volleyball Foreign Tour Team.

“I am excited and proud to be part of this tour,” said Aird. “The volleyball will be elite and we will be pushed by some of the best teams in the world. I am certain that our athletes will represent the Big Ten Conference the right way.  I would like to thank The University of Maryland and the Big Ten Conference for their support and for the opportunity.”

The final schedule will be announced at a later date.
