IOWA CITY, Iowa — Tyler Bussert of Port Byron, Illinois, and Gonzalo Leal Montero of Seville, Spain, have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall, UI men’s golf coach Tyler Stith announced Monday.
 
“Each of them brings something a little different to our team,” Stith said. “Together they will add character, a strong work ethic, and desire to win to our program.”

Riverdale High School

  • Won Illinois high school team and individual state championship as a senior, which was Riverdale’s first ever state championship in any sport
  • Runner-up in Illinois high school individual state championship as a junior
  • Two-time conference champion as a freshman and junior
  • Won Mid-American Junior Golf Tour at Harborside last summer
  • Finished third at the Midwest Junior Championship at Finkbine Golf Course last summer
  • Holds low nine-hole school record (30) and low 18-hole school record (66)
  • Varsity participant on high school basketball team since sophomore year
  • Tied for the top of his class with a 4.0 GPA
  • Intended major: biomedical sciences

  • Led high school team to second place finish at U-16 Spanish Interstates Championship in 2016
  • Placed second in U-16 Spanish Individual Championship in 2014
  • Won U-14 Spanish Individual Championship in 2014
  • Career best round of 66 at Evian Championship Juniors Cup in 2014
  • Member of Real Club de Golf de Seville coached by José Carlos Gutiérrez

The University of Iowa men’s golf team returns to action in the spring at the Big Ten Match Play Championships in Palm Coast, Florida, Feb. 9-10.
