4 Hawkeyes to Attend U.S. National Team Tryouts

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa volleyball players Brie Orr, Halle Johnston, Reghan Coyle, and Kelsey O’Neill will try out for the U.S. Women’s National Team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on March 2-4.
 
34537The tryouts include approximately 240 athletes competing for positions on the U.S. Collegiate National Team Programs, both domestic and international.
 
“We are proud to sponsor our student-athletes to compete for the red white and blue,” said UI head coach Bond Shymansky. “It’s a great opportunity for them to train and compete with the best young players in the nation. These are invaluable experiences for our Hawkeyes”
 
Orr played in all 33 matches as a freshman. As the Hawkeye setter, she had three matches with 50 or more assists, 13 matches with 40-or-more assists, and 23 matches with 30-or-more assists. Orr led Iowa with 1,201 assists and chipped in 99 kills, 65 blocks, and 10 aces.
 
Johnston played in 19 matches in 2017. She recorded 76 digs, nine aces, and nine assists overall. In Big Ten play, the freshman had seven digs and an ace.
 
Coyle appeared in all 33 matches for the Hawkeyes. She registered 182 kills, 58 blocks, and 38 digs overall, and had 93 kills, 31 blocks, and 26 digs in Big Ten action.
 
O’Neill played in 32 matches for Iowa. She had 185 kills and ranked second on the team with 106 blocks. In Big Ten action, the senior tallied 115 kills and 68 blocks.
