IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball program announced Thursday that Courtney Buzzerio has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Hawkeye program in 2018. The announcement was made by UI head coach Bond Shymansky.

34537Buzzerio is a 6-5 setter from Chino Hills, California. She played three seasons at Orange Lutheran High School under head coach Andrew Mabry.

As a senior, Buzzerio recorded 222 kills, 318 assists, 48 blocks, and 35 aces to help Orange Lutheran win a CIF Division 2 championship. Following the season, Buzzerio was named first team All-Trinity League, first team All-Orange County, and CIF Division 2 Player of the Year.

“Courtney is a very unique and special setter,” Shymansky said. “She provides a totally different element at her position with her length and reach.  Her hands have gotten better every year and we believe she will wreak havoc at the net as an attacking setter, blocker, and high contact player. Courtney continues to grow and improve and we expect that she will serve our program well. We look forward to adding another Buzzerio to our Hawkeye family.”

Buzzerio is the sixth player to commit to Iowa’s 2018 recruiting class. Hannah Clayton, Amiya Jones, Sarah Wing, Maddie Slagle, and Maddie Hine committed to the Hawkeyes last fall.

Buzzerio’s sister, Meghan Buzzerio, is currently a redshirt junior for the Hawkeyes.
