IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s track and field team is ranked 24th in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll, released Monday.

Sophomore Laulauga Tausaga and senior Jahisha Thomas lead Iowa in the field. Tausaga captured her first Drake Relays title with a school-record-setting throw in the shot put on April 28. Tausaga’s mark of 54-feet, 11.25-inches is 16th in the country and third in the Big Ten. In addition, Tausaga is first in the Big Ten and fifth in the country in the discus at 196-feet, 5-inches.

Thomas continues to lead Iowa in the horizontal jumps. Thomas set a new personal best in the triple jump at the Drake Relays and ranks first in the conference in the event. The London, UK, native’s 43-foot, 8.5-inch jump brings her within inches of the Iowa school record of 43-feet, 10.75-inches, set by Renee White in 2008. Thomas is also second in the Big Ten and ninth in the NCAA in the long jump (21-feet, 1.5-inches).

On the track, senior Brittany Brown leads Iowa in the 200 meters with the fastest time in the Big Ten and 12th fastest time in the country at 22.76.

The Hawkeyes open the postseason at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Indiana, May 11-13.
