2 Hawkeyes Claim All-Big Ten Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore men’s golf student-athlete Alex Schaake was selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team, while junior Matthew Walker was the recipient of the Iowa Men’s Golf Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
 
Schaake led the Hawkeyes in scoring average (71.74), rounds at or below par (13), and top-10 finishes (4). In the spring, he was Iowa’s top-finisher in four of the six stroke-play events. He was the 10th ranked player in the Big Ten, per Golfstat’s most recent rankings.
 
The Omaha, Nebraska, native had runner-up finishes at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and Hawkeye Invitational, while he finished third at the Southern Intercollegiate. Schaake’s best round of the season (67) came in the second round at the Schenkel invitational where he sank even birdies.
 
Schaake most recently tied for 18th at the Big Ten Championships to cap off a solid sophomore campaign.
 
Walker competed in every event for the Hawkeyes and finished with an 18-hole scoring average of 72.87 with two top-20 finishes and 11 rounds at or below par. Walker’s best finish of the season came at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate where he tied for sixth at one-over-par.
