Tausaga Earns Bronze at USA Track and Field Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa — Sophomore Laulauga Tausaga highlighted the first day of the 2018 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships with a third place finish in the discus throw inside Drake Stadium on Thursday.

Tausaga, who is coming off of a fourth place finish in the event at the NCAA Championships, tossed a personal best 198-11 (60.65 meter) throw on her final attempt to secure a third place finish. Tausaga’s weekend will continue with the shot put on Sunday at 2:10 p.m. (CT).

In the 800 meters, former Hawkeye and Nike runner Erik Sowinski clocked the fastest time in the preliminary round at 1:46.37. He was followed by senior Carter Lilly, who ran a personal best time of 1:47.10 to qualify for tonight’s semifinals.

Junior Briana Guillory advanced to the next round in the 400 meters. Guillory ran 52.53 to record the fourth fastest time in the event. She runs tonight in the semifinals at 6:05 p.m.

The USA Track and Field Championships continue today with the semifinals in the 400 meters and 800 meters. Live results of the meet are available on hawkeyesports.com/tracklive. The meet will air on NBC on Saturday and Sunday from 3-5 p.m.
