IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa junior Talia Buss is a sprinter on the track and field team. Buss ran career bests in the 200 (24.36) and 400 (55.81) meters during the 2018 outdoor season at the Drake Relays and Willie Williams Classic, respectively. Her sophomore efforts included USTFCCCA all-academic, academic All-Big Ten, and Dean’s List honors.
 
What do you want to achieve this season (personally and as a team)?
“This season I personally want to make it to a Big Ten final and win a championship as a team.”
 
What is your favorite memory as a Hawkeye?
“My favorite memory is living in the dorms freshman year and meeting new people.”  
 
What is your best advice for the freshmen?
“My best advice to freshman is to learn to use the buses, don’t be late to practice, and wear shower shoes.”  
 
What made you choose the University of Iowa?
“I have been a lifelong Hawkeye fan. My parents and sister all went here. It was a perfect distance from home, not too close yet not too far. It felt like the right fit.”  
 
If not XC/Track & Field, what sport would you play?
“I played soccer my whole life and gave it up to pursue track in high school.”  
 
What is one thing people don’t know about you?
“I am double jointed.” 
 
Who is your favorite professional athlete?
“J.J. Watt because I like him as a person and an athlete.”  
 
When you’re not practicing, what is your favorite thing to do?
“Sleep.” 
 
What is something you have always wanted to try but have been too scared to?
“Skydiving, but I am going to go for my 21st birthday.”  
 
What’s your favorite cheesy pick-up line and have you ever used it in real life?
“‘Do you come here often?’ Works like a charm.”  
 
If you could choose a super power, what would you choose?
“My super power would be to freeze time. That way I could nap for hours and no time would pass at all.”
 
Who would play you in a movie?
“Emmy Rossum, a teammate of mine told me I looked like her.”
 
How do you feel about pineapple on pizza?
“Gross! Ew, never.”
 
Where’s your favorite spot on campus?
“The Power Café in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, because they have amazing smoothies.”
 
If you could trade places with anyone in the world, who would it be?
“Lauren Akins so I could have Thomas Rhett write songs about me.”
