IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa junior Collin Hofacker is a four-time All-American and 2017 Outdoor Big Ten Champion in the 1,600-meter relay.
He etched his name in Iowa’s top-10 lists 16 times: outdoor 1,600 meter relay (six times), indoor 1,600 meter relay (three times), indoor sprint medley relay (twice), and once in the outdoor 400 meters, outdoor 800-meter relay, 3,200 meter relay, indoor 400 meters, and distance medley relay. He holds the school record in the outdoor 1,600-meter relay (3:01.91, 2017), indoor 1,600-meter relay (3:04.94, 2017), and indoor distance medley relay (9:33.90).
Hofacker is a native of Freedom, Wisconsin, and is a pre-physician major.
What are you most excited for this year?
“The one thing I’m most excited for this year is being able to run the Big Ten meet on our home track.”
What are you wanting to achieve this season?
“Personally, this season I would like to build off of all my personal records, and as a team, we want to win a Big Ten title.”
What is your favorite memory as a Hawkeye?
“My favorite memory as a Hawkeye is placing third in the 1,600 meters at the 2017 NCAA Championships.”
What is your best advice for the freshmen?
“My best advice for freshman is to be resilient. Some days can be frustrating but you need to keep fighting.”
What is the best advice you’ve ever received from a coach?
“The best advice I’ve ever received was from my high school football coach. He told me, ‘Don’t suck.'”
If not track & field, what sport would you play?
“I would play football because that is the sport I miss the most from high school.”
What is one thing people don’t know about you?
“I cried on the first day of track my freshman year of high school and wanted to play baseball instead.”
Who is your favorite professional athlete?
“LeBron James.”
When you’re not practicing, what is your favorite thing to do?
“I like to play Fortnite.”
How do you feel about pineapple on pizza?
“It’s a disgrace to pizza.”
Where’s your favorite spot on campus?
“My favorite place on campus is my bedroom because I can play and watch Fortnite.”
