IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa weight throwers kicked off the Black and Gold Premier on Friday with a win from junior Laulauga Tausaga (20.26 meters, 66-5 3/4).
The Hawkeyes saw personal bests from junior Nia Britt (18.71 meters, 61-4 3/4), sophomore Konstadina Spanoudakis (16.24 meters, 53-3 1/2), and junior Allison Wahrman (16.10 meters, 52-10).
Freshmen Dawson Ellingson and Jordan Hawkins competed unattached in the men’s weight throw. Ellingson threw 14.59 meters (47.10 1/2), and Hawkins threw a personal best of 15.77 meters (51-9) in the finals.
The Black and Gold Premier continues on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT) with field events. Running events will start at 2:35 p.m. (CT). Admission is free.
