IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa graduate Jahisha Thomas finished second in the 2019 SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships long jump on Sunday.

“It was an amazing and intense experience all at the same time, and I knew what was on the line,” Thomas said. “Making top two and with such high caliber of athletes, it was in the capabilities of many of the women there, but I knew I had prepared and worked for this moment on and off that track. I kept believing in myself and what I knew I could do.”

Before graduating from Iowa in 2018, Thomas earned All-American honors seven times and was a four-time Big Ten Champion in long and triple jump.

Thomas jumped 6.36 meters (20-10 1/2) on her fourth attempt to secure the silver medal and qualify for the European Championships.

“Even though it wasn’t my farthest jump, it was about competing and doing what it took to place top-two and get to the European Championships. I was so excited, knowing that I was able to compete under those conditions. Now, I finally get to represent Great Britain, something I have been working towards my entire athletic career. It’s time to prove that it was worth it.”

The 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held March 1-3 at Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
