Hawkeyes Rank Top-25 in USTFCCCA Preseason Poll

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s and women’s track and field teams were both ranked in the top 25 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association outdoor preseason poll. The USTFCCCA rank the men at No. 22 and the women at No.23.

The Hawkeye women have been ranked in the top 25 ten times, six times in 2019, and the men have ranked in the top 25 16 times since 2008.

The men have five student athletes with top-15 marks in the nation already this season, including Jaylan McConico in the 110-meter hurdles (13.82, third), Chris Douglas in the 110-meter hurdles (14.18, 12th), Nathan Mylenek in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:55.67, fourth), Jay Hunt in the high jump (2.11 meters, 6-11, fifth), and Reno Tuufuli in the discus (57.49 meters, 188-7, sixth). On the women’s side Konstadina Spanoudakis is the only student-athlete in the top 15 with the sixth best discus mark (53.41 meters, 175-3) so far this season.
 
The Hawkeyes have a weekend off before traveling to Gainesville, Florida, for the Florida Relays and Stanford, California, for the Stanford Invitational on March 29-30.
