There really is no place like home.
Kirk Ferentz, who has amassed 94 wins at home in his two decades as Iowa head football coach, says that the Hawkeyes’ home field advantage is second to none.
“University of Iowa football is built on tradition, and the cornerstone of that tradition is Kinnick Stadium,” says Ferentz, the all-time winningest football coach in school history. “Every Hawkeye player, coach, and fan knows it’s a unique place.”
To keep Kinnick Stadium a special place for generations to come, the $89 million Kinnick Edge Campaign—which is revitalizing the stadium’s north end zone—was born. Hawkeye athletics is raising $25 million in private support for Kinnick Stadium, and so far, donors have given more than $19 million to the project.
On Wednesday, April 3, Hawkeye fans everywhere will have an opportunity to support the Kinnick Edge Campaign by making a gift during One Day for Iowa, the UI’s 24-hour online giving day. During this day, Hawkeye fans, alumni, parents, and friends are encouraged to support their favorite university cause and can maximize their impact by taking advantage of limited-time challenges and matching gift opportunities.
Throughout One Day for Iowa, individuals who support the Kinnick Edge Campaign will also have the opportunity to win Kinnick Edge swag—hats, water bottles, and flags—as well as two tickets in the new north end zone’s Ted Pacha Family Club Room for the season opener against Miami, Ohio, on Saturday, Aug. 31. Because Hawkeye athletics is 100 percent self-supporting and receives no state funding, contributions from alumni, fans, and friends make projects like Kinnick Edge possible.
When the 2019 season kicks off, Kinnick Stadium’s north end zone will be enhanced with 1,600 premium seats, the Ted Pacha Family Club Room, an open-air concourse, and a videoboard, as well as new concessions and restrooms—all thanks to our loyal fans and friends.
“One Day for Iowa is a great opportunity for Hawkeyes everywhere to help our student-athletes reach even greater heights,” says Gary Barta, the Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair. “Kinnick Stadium is the best football venue in the country, and it’s important that we enhance it—not only for our players and coaches, but for our passionate fans.”
For Ferentz, the Kinnick Edge Campaign is vital to maintaining a competitive advantage in the Big Ten Conference and beyond.
“We’ve already seen the impact of the Kinnick Stadium renovation,” says Ferentz. “With the project ending in just a few short months, I am confident that our home-field advantage will be even greater in 2019 and that our fans will enjoy the new seating and amenities within the north end zone.”
You can support the Kinnick Edge Campaign by making a gift on or before Wednesday, April 3, 2019.
