THE FIELD
No. 38 Iowa is joined by a field of 13 other teams that include: No. 27 Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, No. 56 Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, No. 47 Northwestern, No. 45 Ohio State, No. 58 Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin (Golfstat Relative Rankings).

“The guys have a lot of confidence right now. We are going to play a course we have never seen so we have to spend some time putting together our course management plan. Overall, we need to work on our putting the next couple of days. That is an area we are going to focus on this week heading into Big Ten’s.”
 
THE LINEUP
The lineup for the Big Ten Championships includes one senior (Matthew Walker), two juniors (Alex Schaake and Benton Weinberg), one sophomore (Joe Kim), and one freshman (Gonzalo Leal Montero).
 
THE COURSE
The Big Ten Championships will be played on the Wissahickon Course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. The course opened in 1922 and underwent a complete restoration in 2013-14. The Wissahickon course was ranked 29th on Golf Week’s top 100 classic courses in the United States in 2018. The par-70, 7,119 yard course, has a rating of 74.8 and a slope rating of 140.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Hawkeyes earned their fifth top-five and seventh top-10 finish at the Hawkeye Invitational, claiming the team title with a 54-hole score of 809 (-43). Four Hawkeyes — senior Matthew Walker, juniors Alex Schaake and Benton Weinberg, and sophomore Joe Kim finished in the top-20. Walker and Schaake shared co-medalist honors with a three-round total of 199 (-14). Weinberg finished sixth with a score of 204 (-9), while Kim posted a 209 (-4) to tie for 14th.
HISTORICALLY AT THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Hawkeyes have 13 top-10 finishes over the past 15 years, including nine top-five finishes the past nine years. Iowa has placed fourth or better in the last six tournaments, including finishing runner-up in 2015 and 2016. Iowa placed third at last year’s conference tournament third with a 54-hole total of 859 (+19). Weinberg posted the best individual finish, tying for eighth with a three-round total of 213 (+3).
 
RECORD SETTING PERFORMANCE AT HAWKEYE INVITE
The Hawkeye shattered the program’s 54-hole mark by 24 strokes with an 809 (-43).  Iowa set a new program record for 18 holes with its 262 (-22) performance in the first round, topping the previous mark by six strokes. Their third-round total of 270 (-14) is the third lowest 18-hole score in school history. Schaake set a new tournament 18-hole record with a 63 (-8) in the first round. It was also best for second in program history and just one stroke off the school record. Schaake and Weinberg tied the third lowest 18-hole score in school history with a 64 (-7). Weinberg’s 54-hole total of 204 (-9) set the new third lowest score in school history. Walker fired a 67 (-4) on the first 18, tying the sixth lowest mark in program history. The senior posted back-to-back rounds of 66 (-5), which ties the fifth best 18-hole score in program history. Kim tied the eighth lowest 54-hole mark in school history with a 209 (-4).
 
CAREER WEEKEND
Four Hawkeyes — Schaake, Weinberg, Kim, and Walker — posted career low 18-hole scores in the first round of the Hawkeye Invitational. Schaake fired a 63 (-8) with a bogey-free first round. Weinberg carded a 64 (-7). Kim shot a 68 (-3) and Walker posted a 66 (-5). Schaake (199; -14), Walker (199; -14), Weinberg (204; -9), and Kim (209; -4), and sophomore Jake Rowe (224; +11) all fired career best 54-hole scores. Schaake and Walker each earned a career best finish, earning co-medalist honors. Weinberg (6th), and Kim (T-14th) also earned personal best finishes.
 
STAYING BELOW PAR
Iowa carded 13 of its 15 rounds at or below par in the Hawkeye Invitational, including five in the first round. Walker (67, 66, 66), Weinberg (64, 70, 70), sophomore Kim (68, 71, 70), each recorded three. Freshman Gonzalo Leal Montero (71, 70) and Schaake (63, 64) both registered two rounds.
 
SCHAAKE LEADING THE WAY
Alex Schaake leads the Hawkeyes, posting 16 of his 23 rounds this season at or below par. The Omaha, Nebraska, native has registered the top individual finish for Iowa in a team-leading four tournaments, earning co-medalist honors at the Hawkeye Invitational, finishing runner-up at the Colleton River Collegiate, tied for second at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, and tied for seventh at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic. The junior carded two or more rounds at or below par in six tournaments. Schaake has posted every round at or below par in four competitions. He leads Iowa with a stroke average of 70.22, six top-20 finishes, five top-10 finishes, a low round of 63, and 16 rounds at or below par.
