Weinberg Named All-America Scholar

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa men’s golf senior Benton Weinberg has been named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, the announcement came Tuesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
 
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
 
Weinberg was recognized on the All-Big Ten Second Team and the All-Midwest Region Team after a stellar junior season. He was second on the team in scoring average (71.79), while registering 11 rounds at or below par. The Potomac, Maryland, native posted a career best 18-hole score of 64 (-7), 54-hole score of 204 (-9), and finish (6th) at the Hawkeye Invitational. Weinberg recorded the best individual finish for the Hawkeyes at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate (Oct. 22-23), tying for ninth with a three-round total of 215 (+5).
