Brown Takes Title, Tausaga Breaks Record at USA vs. Europe

MINSK, Belarus — University of Iowa senior Laulauga Tausaga, the defending NCAA champion in discus, threw a school-record 63.71 meters (209-0) to place second at “The Match” in Minsk, Belarus. Tauasaga’s mark ranks No. 1 in the world among U23 competitors. 

Former Hawkeye All-American Brittany Brown won the 200 meters at the event, finishing in 22.61. “The Match” is Team USA’s final event in advance of the 2019 World Championships. It features members of Team USA against Europe. 

The 2019 World Championships are Sept. 27-Oct. 6 at Doha, Qatar. 

Tausaga competes in the qualifying round Oct. 2. The finals for the event are Oct. 4. Brown opens the championships Sept. 30. The semifinals are Oct. 1, and the finals are Oct. 2.
