Hawkeyes Announce 2019-20 Track & Field Schedule

2019-2020 Track and Field Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa schedule released Oct. 15 includes five home meets during the 2019-2020 season.

The indoor season is highlighted by the fourth annual Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Jan. 17-18. The teams attending the two-day event include Arizona, Baylor, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Purdue, and Wisconsin.

The Jimmy Grant Invitational marks season opener for the Hawkeyes on Dec. 13-14. Other indoor home meets include the Hawkeye Invitational (Jan.10-11) and the Black and Gold Invitational (Jan 31-Feb.1). All home meets are held at the UI Recreation Building.

The Big Ten Indoor Championships take place on Feb. 28-29 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The NCAA Indoor Championships are in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 13-14.

“It’s exciting because we get to host a lot of meets at home with the home crowd that comes out and supports us, especially at our indoor meets,” said head coach Joey Woody. “To have a world class facility where we get to bring in some of the best competition from across the country, it’s going to be a fun and entertaining indoor season, which sets our athletes up for success.”

The returning Big Ten Champions and Hawkeye women open the 2020 outdoor season at the Baldy Castillo Invite on March 20-21 in Tempe, Arizona. Iowa hosts Musco Twilight XXI on May 2.

The Big Ten Outdoor Championships is May 15-17 in Madison, Wisconsin. The NCAA Outdoor Championships takes place June 10-13 in Austin, Texas.

“It’s always great to be the Big Ten champs, but like I told the athletes on the team, we have a big target on our back,” said Woody. “We put the trophy in the drawer and we start hunting for the next one. As we approach the season, we have to have the mentality that we’re still competing as the underdogs. The next step is to win a championship on the women’s team and be one of those top ten teams both indoor and outdoor.”
