EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Iowa swimming and diving team fell to Northwestern on Saturday at the Norris Aquatics Center. The men’s team dropped its matchup, 157-143, while the women fell, 199-101.
TOP FINISHES
Sophomore Aleksey Tarasenko (20.39), and seniors Joe Myhre (20.40), Steve Fiolic (20.45), and Will Scott (20.80) secured the top-four spots in the 50 free for the second meet in a row, keeping the sprint events hot.
Seniors Allyssa Fluit (1:49.66) and Hannah Burvill (1:50.68) powered first and second finishes in the 200 free, followed by Tarasenko (1:36.98) with a win in the men’s 200 free. Sophomore Mateusz Arndt was third at 1:37.80.
Fluit (4:53.81) and freshman Macy Rink (5:00.94) flexed in the 500 free and secured the top-two spots, fueling the distance events. Arndt (4:27.82) and sophomore Andrew Fierke (4:30.00) took first and second for the men.
Senior Michael Tenney secured the final individual win for the Hawkeyes in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.58.
SILVER STARS
Freshman Millie Sansome (10:17.58) and Rink (10:20.75) grabbed second and third in the 1,000 free.
Junior Daniel Swanepoel (54.63) and freshman Will Myhre (55.30) rested second and third in the 100 breast. The duo finished in the same placing and order in the 200 breast at 1:59.22 and 2:03.57.
Junior Kelsey Drake cruised to second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.64. Tenney followed with another silver in the men’s 200 fly with a time of 1:47.64.
Burvill took another second with a time of 51.17 in the 100 free, while Tarasenko came back in the men’s 100 and finished second with a time of 44.38.
Freshman Sergey Kuznetsov (48.04) and Michael Tenney (48.91) notch second and third finishes in the 100 fly.
DIVING
Junior Jayah Mathews captured another win on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 276.68. Freshman Mohamed Neuman placed second for the men with a score of 294.08.
Junior Anton Hoherz led the way on the 3-meter, taking the top spot with a score of 356.33. Neuman took third with 339.83 points. Sophomore Sam Tamborski placed third for the women with 286.50 points.
RELAYS
The 200-medley team of Kennedy Gilbertson, Sage Ohlensehlen, Drake and Sarah Schemmel posted third with a time of 1:44.56. The men’s 200 medley relay of John Colin, Will Myhre, Kuznetsov, and Joe Myhre notched second in 1:28.28.
The 400-free relay of Lauren McDougall, Maddie Ziegert, Fluit, and Burvill finished second in a time of 3:25.76. The men’s relay team Tarasenko, Fiolic, Kuznetsov, and Joe Myhre nabbed the win in 2:57.62.
