IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday that the University of Iowa seniors Laulauga Tausaga and Jaylan McConico have been named Big Ten Track and Field Athletes of the week.
 
Tausaga won the women’s shot put at the Texas Tech Shootout on Feb. 15 with a mark of 17.34 meters She currently ranks first in the Big Ten and second in the nation for shot put.
 
The weekly conference honor is the third of Tausaga’s indoor career and second straight this season.
 
McConico is coming off a first-place win in the 60-meter hurdles at the Tyson Invite on Feb. 14. He set a new Iowa school record and personal best (7.60). The time ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten and second in the nation. McConico has competed in the 60-meter hurdles in five meets this season and has finished first each time.
 
The weekly conference honor is the third of McConico’s career and fifth for Iowa this season.
