IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa Freshman Lea Zeitler took the gold in the International Tyrolean Championship in Austria on June 6.
The Austria native shot a 36-hole score of 141 (-1), earning the top spot on the leaderboard above 11 competitors. Zeitler held her position at the top during both rounds of stroke play.
“In Austria, you compete mostly against the same people and the starting field is very similar from tournament to tournament,” Zeitler said. “Since there are so many different tournaments in college you get a greater variety of players. Also, all the courses around my area are very similar. One thing I think is cool about playing in the U.S. is that every week you get to experience a new golf course with a whole different layout, greens, and even grass. That is a great chance to expand as a player.”
Zeitler is set to compete in another competition next week.
