Iowa Falls To No. 11 Florida In Match Play Dual

NAPLES, Fla. — The University of Iowa men’s golf team fell to No. 11 Florida on Monday in a match play dual held at the Calusa Pines Golf Club.

Fifth-year senior Benton Weinberg was Iowa’s lone victor, gutting out a playoff-win in 19 holes against Florida’s Joe Pagdin. Senior Jake Rowe also forced extra holes, but was defeated on the 20th hole.

Monday’s outing brings Iowa to 3-2-0 on the season in match play competition. The Hawkeyes opened the year with a second-place finish at Big Ten Match Play, defeating Nebraska (3-2), Penn State (3-2), and Michigan State (3-2), before being edged by Indiana in the championship (3-2).

Today’s event was an opportunity for both teams to compete on the same course where the inaugural Calusa Cup will be held next week.
