Hawkeye Distance Crew Shines on Day 1 of Billy Hayes Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana—The University of Iowa track and field team were led by Dan Soto, Noah Healy, and Nathan Mylenek who recorded one all time performance and three season’s best performances together on day 1 of the Billy Hayes Invitational.

Soto’s time currently ranks third all-time in program history just behind fellow teammate Nathan Mylenek. This is Soto’s second all-time top 10 performance of the outdoor season. Soto finished second in the 10,000 meters at the Big Ten Invite #3 on April 16th with a time of 28:48.18, which currently ranks second in program history.

Noah Healy finished sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:13.74. This time was a little over a second off Healy’s personal best. Healy also recorded an all-time top 10 performance at the Big Ten Invite #3 as he sits ninth with a time of 29:56.30.

Nathan Mylenek brought home the bronze medal in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a season’s best time of 8:44.96. Mylenek is coming off a top 10 performance at the Big Ten Invite #3 where he posted a time of 13:54.15 in the 5,000 meters. This time currently ranks second all-time in program history.

QUOTING COACH HASENBANK
“Nate had his best race since 2019 at the NCAA Finals, also a season best by six seconds so moving in the right direction. While Dan delivered another terrific performance, he may not have been completely recovered from his big 10k a couple weeks ago. However, he did have a 25 second outdoor personal best and moves to number 3 all time at Iowa. Noah just missed the number 10 mark of all time and continues to have a great outdoor season. Nate and Dan now sit 2nd and 3rd all time in the outdoor 5k. They have all become very consistent at a high level.”
