Hawkeyes Conclude Dick McGuire Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a final round 303 (+15) on Tuesday afternoon at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The Hawkeyes finished with a three-round total of 897 (297-297-303) at the UNM Championship Course to tie for 14th place.

“It was good for our team to travel together and to face tough competition,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “Paula’s first tournament was solid and all the players had some solid stretches. We are eager to tee it up again this weekend in Madison.”

Freshman Paula Miranda led the way for the Hawkeyes, shooting a one-over 73 (+1) on Tuesday with 15 pars and one birdie. The 73 matched junior Morgan Goldstein for the team’s low round during the tournament. Miranda shot a three-round total of 221 (74-74-73) to finish five over par and in a tie for 32nd place.

Goldstein fired a final round 76 (+4) and finished with three-round total of 224 (75-73-76, +8) to tie for 44th. The Las Vegas native shot a 39 halfway through round three before finishing the back nine with two birdies.

Sophomore Klara Wildhaber shot a 79 (+7) over her final 18 holes to tie for 59th place with a 227 (74-74-79). Wildhaber had 13 pars during her final round.

Senior Dana Lerner closed the tournament with a 78 (+6) and a three-round total of 228 (74-76-78, +12) to tie for 63rd, while junior Jacque Galloway shot a final round 76 (+4) – her best round of the tournament – to finish with a 235 (80-79-76, +19) to tie for 84th.

The Hawkeyes will return to action Sunday, as they travel to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Badger Fall Invitational from Sept. 19-21.
