Iowa Fires Season-Best 291 at Ron Moore

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Sophomore Klara Wildhaber fired a season-best 71 (-1) to help the University of Iowa women’s golf team to a season-low 291 in the first round of the Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate on Friday at the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch.

Wildhaber started the day with three birdies over her first nine holes and she notched her final birdie on hole 16 to finish in the red. She is in 12th place overall on the individual leaderboard.

Freshman Paula Miranda also sits in the top 20 after shooting an even par 72. The Mexico native had four birdies in the opening round to put her in 19th place. It was her second round at or below par this fall.

The Hawkeyes are eighth through 18 holes with a three-over par 291. It is the team’s best round by six shots this season. East Tennessee State carded a -17 under 271 to hold a 14-shot lead over host Denver.

“We did a lot of good things today. The team came out and attacked the course and had some strong bounce back moments, too. I think everyone is feeling comfortable with their games and looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow.”

HAWKEYE NOTEABLES
– Wildhaber and junior Lea Zeitler carded their best rounds of the season on Friday.
– Lizarazu shot a three-over par 75 in her first competitive round of the fall.
– The Hawkeyes averaged a 4.04 score on par fours over the first 18 holes – third best in the tournament.
– Iowa had 17 birdies on Friday, tied for the second most in the field. Zeitler had 14 pars, tied for the third-most in the field.
