CORALVILLE, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball lost, 3-0, to sixth-ranked Purdue Saturday night at Xtream Arena.

Bailey Ortega totaled a team-best 14 assists, while Kyndra Hansen led the squad with seven kills. Hannah Clayton had the highest attack percentage for the Hawkeyes, hitting at .400.

SET 1 (Purdue, 25-18): Scoring went point-for-point from the start, staying within two points of one another until it was tied, 12-12. The Boilermakers forced an Iowa timeout after scoring three straight points. Purdue began to pull further ahead and ultimately took the first set by seven points. Amiya Jones led Iowa with four kills.

SET 2 (Purdue, 25-12): Purdue jumped out to a 9-1 advantage and cruised to a 13-point victory. Kyndra Hansen paced the Hawkeyes with three kills.

SET 3 (Purdue, 25-16): Purdue started the set on a 4-0 run and built a seven-point cushion at 15-9. The Hawkeyes attempted a comeback after a timeout, closing the deficit to 20-15, but would get no closer. Courtney Buzzerio registered three kills and two digs in the final set.

“In order to get our first Big Ten win we need to increase our consistency. Our back court and passing line are on in some matches, they’re digging a lot of balls and giving us opportunities to score. We just can’t figure out the rhythm offensively, from attacking it, or we miss a lot of serves. We need to find a way to play a cleaner game.”

The Hawkeyes hit the road for a match at Illinois on Wednesday, Oct. 13. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT).
