Iowa Falls to No. 10 Ohio State, 3-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Iowa volleyball team fell to No. 10 Ohio State, 3-1, Friday night at the Covelli Center.

Amiya Jones had the highest attack percentage for the Hawkeyes, hitting at .348, with nine kills. Courtney Buzzerio lead the squad with 13 kills and 43 attacks. Bailey Ortega totaled a team-best 25 assists. Mari Hinkle was credited with 30 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 (Ohio State, 25-15): The Hawkeyes came out swinging, clocking in kills from Hannah Clayton, Addie VanderWeide, and Audrey Black. The point spread stayed small at the beginning of the set. Ohio State eventually went on a five-point run to build a 16-8 advantage. Despite Iowa’s efforts to close the gap, the deficit stayed over six throughout until the end of the set.

SET 2 (Ohio State, 15-25): Iowa was the first to pull ahead by three, 6-3. The match stayed close with long rallies and errors from both teams throughout the set. Ohio State began to pull away, 16-14. More rallies ending in the Buckeyes’ favor brought the point spread even further, 20-15. Ohio State took the final five points to close out set two.

SET 3 (Iowa, 25-22): Ohio State took the first initial lead, 5-1. The Hawkeyes pushed back closing the gap to, 9-8. Scoring stayed tight until mid-set, tied at 15. The Hawkeyes began to pull ahead, 20-17, forcing Ohio State’s first timeout. Points went from team to team, with Iowa staying up through the end. The Hawkeyes took the third set by three. Buzzerio helped the Hawkeyes win the set with five kills, and Jones with three.

SET 4 (Ohio State, 25-16): Ohio State led by four early, 5-1. The Hawkeyes rallied to tie the match at 6. Ohio State pulled ahead, 9-6, and stayed up by at least two through the end of the match. Ohio State went on a seven-point run, 21-12. The Buckeyes ultimately won the set by nine.

The Hawkeyes head to Bloomington, Indiana, Sunday, Nov. 21, to challenge Indiana. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) at the Wilkinson Hall.
