FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The University of Iowa track team recorded a pair of top two all-time marks on day one of the Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday.
Senior Nia Britt led the way for the Hawkeyes in the weight throw, winning the competition with a mark of 20.68 meters (67’10.25”). Britt’s mark moved her second all-time in school history. Iowa’s No. 3 all-time weight thrower, Amanda Howe, finished as the runner up (20.46m, 67’1.5”). For the men, school-record holder Tyler Lienau was the top-finisher for the Hawkeyes in fifth (20.53m, 67’4.25”).
The Hawkeye quartet of freshman Antonio Abrego, junior Wayne Lawrence, Jr., sophomore Alec Still, and freshman Max Murphy took fourth in the distance medley relay. The squad recorded the second-fastest time in program history (9:39.60).
Sophomore Tionna Tobias was the top finisher in the pentathlon for the Hawkeyes. Tobias finished with a new personal-best score of 3,627 points (No. 7 all-time). The Hawkeye multi-athlete started the day fast, finishing as the runner up in the 60-meter hurdles — only .01 from tying a career-best mark.
Sophomore Spencer Gudgel (1:17.53) and freshman Jaden Itson (1:31.06) both notched wins in the 600 meters. Itson’s time was a new personal best. Freshmen Phillip Jefferson and Laney Fitzpatrick also recorded new personal-best times of 1:18.52 and 1:33.23, respectively.
Junior James Carter, Jr. finished fifth in the long jump for the Hawkeyes (7.67m, 25’2”) and was just shy of his No. 5 all-time program mark that he set at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational a week ago,
In the 200 meters, the Iowa women recorded six personal-best times. Sophomore Lasarah Hargrove (23.63) led the way and was just .05 off of her personal-best, No. 5 all-time mark. Freshman Lia Love, finished ran a new personal-best of 24.22. Next in was junior Mariel Bruxvoort (24.54) and senior Payton Wensel (24.62), both running new career-best times.
