Iowa Opens Play at B1G Match Play

PALM COAST, Florida — The University of Iowa women’s golf team dropped a pair of matches on Monday in the first day of Big Ten Match Play, contested at the par 72 Innisbrook-Island Golf Course.

The ninth-seeded Hawkeyes fell to 10th-seeded Rutgers, 4-1-1, during the morning session and to third-seeded Nebraska, 4-0-2, in the afternoon.

Freshman, Paula Miranda notched an individual victory over Rutgers, downing Leigha Devine, 4 & 3. This was Miranda’s first career match play victory.

Sophomore, Klara Wildhaber tied RU’s Rikke Nordvik. Against the Huskers, junior Lea Zeitler and senior Dana Lerner tallied ties against Vavrova and Takahashi.
