CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Iowa women’s golf team had a 15-shot improvement during Monday’s second round of the Chattanooga Classic. The Hawkeyes fired a 306 during the second 18 holes at Council Fire Golf Club, moving up two spots on the team leaderboard.
Iowa is tied for 17th with a 627 total (321-306) heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Junior Jacque Galloway led the team, firing an even-par 72 on Monday. The New Mexico native bogeyed two of her first three holes before eagling the par 5 sixth hole. After finishing +1 on the front nine, Galloway birdied the 11th to get back to even par and she pared her final seven holes.
Galloway is tied for 40th place with a 151 (77-72) on the individual leaderboard to pace the team. Her even par 72 is her first round at or below par this season and her eagle was the second by a Hawkeye this season.
Freshman Paula Miranda also had a strong second round, finishing with a one-over par 73. The Mexico native had nine consecutive pars to open her round before birdieing the par-4 10th. Miranda went double bogey-birdie on the 14th and 15th to get back to even, but she bogeyed her second-to-last hole to finish +1.
Miranda is 54th with a 154 (81-73).
QUOTING COACH MEGAN MENZEL
“Great comebacks today by Jacque and Paula. They both played solid rounds. It is good momentum for the whole team and we are working hard to build toward a strong finish tomorrow. It feels like we are close to some players having some nice break throughs and each player needs to keep working.”
