Felicity Taylor Set to Compete at UWW Women's World Cup

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Felicity Taylor is set to compete for the United States at the 2022 Women’s World Cup on Dec. 10-11 at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.

“People get excited about the World Cup… It means a lot in the world of wrestling,” said head coach Clarissa Chun. “You get that with the growth of girls and women’s wrestling, and you are getting this amazing trajectory where it is going to be a cross point right here in Iowa. People who love, breathe, eat, and sleep wrestling are embedded and engrained in this state.”

“I am really excited,” said Taylor. “It is an amazing opportunity to be a part of this team and to do it in Iowa is even better. I’m excited, I’m ready to compete, ready to show the world and Iowa City what Iowa women’s wrestling looks like and where we are at.”

The Spillville, Iowa, native has represented the United States winning both the U.S. Open and U23 National Tournaments.

Taylor was a member of the U23 World Team, where she placed fifth at the World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.  She has also represented the United States at the UWW Junior Pan American Championships in Brazil in 2019 and Senior U23 National Championships in Hungary in 2020.

The World Cup is the annual international dual meet championships. The top nations from the 2022 Senior World Championships have been invited to participate. This will be the first time in history that the men’s freestyle World Cup and the women’s freestyle World Cup events will be held side-by-side.

In men’s freestyle, the teams competing are the United States, Iran, Japan, Mongolia and Georgia. In women’s freestyle, the teams competing are the United States, Japan, China, Mongolia and Ukraine. There will also be an All-World Team assembled for each tournament, bringing the number of teams to six for each gender.

Tickets are available at worldcupiowacity.com.

Taylor will compete unattached in 2022-23. Iowa announced in September 2021 it would become the first Division I Power Five school to add women’s wrestling. The Hawkeyes begin competing in 2023-24.
