B1G Day 1 for the DMR

GENEVA, Ohio – University of Iowa Track and Field closed day one of the Big Ten Indoor Championships with 22 points for the women and 19 points for the men, sitting in third and fourth respectively.

The women’s quartet of juniors Alli Bookin-Nosbisch, Tesa Roberts, Grace Bookin-Nosbisch and Amber Aesoph shattered the 15-year old distance medley school record in 11:15.07, fishing fifth and tallying four points for the team total.

The men’s distance medley relay followed suit with the fourth fastest time in program history (9:42.27) from freshman Brett Wasick, junior Evan Schuster, freshman Ryan Schreiner and sophomore Max Murphy, adding three points to the Hawkeyes’ team score.

Junior Peyton Haack added three points for the men in the pole vault competition with the sixth best height of the afternoon (5.15 meters; 16’ 10.75”) and the third best mark in Iowa history.

A second-place finish in the men’s long jump (7.76 meters; 25’ 6”) from senior James Carter, Jr. earned second-team all-Big Ten honors. Carter earned eight team points, while teammates senior DeAndre Stapleton, Jr. and junior Austin West posted three and two points, respectively.

Three additional Hawkeyes scored team points for the Iowa women, including 12 points from junior Tionna Tobias’ long jump (6.11 meters; 20’ 0.5”) and pentathlon (3,997 points) efforts, and seniors Amanda Howe and Jamie Kofron added six more points for the women in the weight throw.
