Hawkeyes Fire Even Par 288 to Close Out Play in Arizona

PEORIA – The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired an even par 288 – its best round of the tournament – on the final day of the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Monday at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.

The Hawkeyes finished the tournament with an 879 total (293-298-288) to finish in 12th place on the team leaderboard. The 288 final round score is the team’s second-best round of the season and the 879 is just three shots off a season best.

Iowa had three freshmen finish at or below par on the day. Madison Dabagia and Riley Lewis both fired one-under par 71s and sophomore Paula Miranda fired an even par 72.

Dabagia was Iowa’s highest placer, tying for 20th with an even par 216 (72-73-71) – the best 54-hole score of her collegiate career. After bogeying her third hole, the Indiana native reeled off seven straight pars before posting back-to-back birdies to get into the red. She then pared the final five holes to tally her fourth round at or below par this season.

Lewis tallied a top 30 finish, tying for 29th with a 218 (75-72-71). The Illinois native had two birdies in her first four holes before tallying six straight birdies. Lewis had two bogeys sandwiched around her third bogey over her second nine holes to finish in the red at one-under for her fifth round at or below par this season.

Miranda’s final round was her best score of the spring and her third round at or below par this season. She tied for 49th with a 222.

Nebraska won the tournament with a 21-under par 843, while Denver’s Alyson Bean and Ohio State’s Caley McGinty shared the medalist honor with a nine-under par 207.

QUOTING COACH MENZEL
“We continue to show improvement and we were glad to post our best round today. Our putters certainly were not as hot as we would have liked them to be but the team showed some good composure both days and finished their rounds strong. We would like to thank all the Hawkeye fans in the Westbrook Village community who came out and supported us throughout the event. It is great to be a Hawkeye!”
