IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa student-athletes Myreanna Bebe (women’s track and field) and Spencer Lee (wrestling) were named February’s Student-Athletes of the Month, the University of Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee announced.
Lee, a senior from Murrysville, Pennsylvania went 3-0 in February, including one major decision and one fall. He pinned Oklahoma State’s Reece Witcraft in 51 seconds in his final home match in Carver Hawkeye Arena to finish his career 26-0 in the venue. Lee’s pin over Witcraft was his 11th career pin in under one minute, 28th first-period fall, and 34th career pin. He was named the Big Ten’s Wrestler of the Week on Feb. 21, his third honor of the season and seventh of his career.
Bebe, a junior hurdler from Orlando, Florida, was the Big Ten’s 60-meter hurdle champions at the Big Ten Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Bebe’s time of 8.07 broke her own school record and qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was named first team all-B1G at the Big Ten Championships and set the ninth fastest time in the NCAA heading into the national meet.
